What We Treat
Seven conditions,
one precise solution.
CryoPen cryotherapy can safely and effectively treat a wide range of common benign skin conditions — many in a single appointment.
Skin Tags
Small, soft growths that hang from the skin. Completely harmless but often uncomfortable or self-conscious-making — removed quickly and cleanly.
Warts
Caused by HPV, warts can appear anywhere on the body. CryoPen freezes the lesion directly, destroying the abnormal cells without damaging surrounding skin.
Verrucas
Plantar warts on the soles of the feet that can be painful and persistent. CryoPen offers a precise, effective alternative to over-the-counter treatments.
Moles
Benign moles can be safely removed using CryoPen. All new mole clients first undergo our Map My Mole screening to confirm suitability for treatment.
Age Spots
Flat, pigmented marks caused by UV exposure. CryoPen targets the excess melanin precisely, fading or removing the spot without affecting surrounding skin.
Seborrhoeic Keratoses
Rough, waxy, raised growths that appear with age. Entirely benign but cosmetically bothersome — CryoPen removes them efficiently with minimal discomfort.
Cherry Angiomas
Small bright red or purple vascular growths on the skin surface. Common from middle age onwards and easily treated with a single precise CryoPen application.
The Science & The Process
How it works — and
what to expect.
Understanding what happens during and after treatment helps you feel confident and prepared at every stage.
CryoPen uses nitrous oxide (N₂O) at −89°C delivered through a fine, pen-shaped applicator. When applied to a lesion, the extreme cold rapidly freezes the water inside the skin cells to −45°C, turning it into ice crystals that rupture the cell membrane — effectively destroying the lesion at the cellular level.
The precision of the CryoPen means only the targeted tissue is affected. Surrounding healthy skin is preserved entirely — which is what makes it safe for use on the face, around the eyes and on other sensitive areas.
Most lesions require just one to three sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Many are resolved in a single appointment.
All new CryoPen clients require an initial consultation before treatment begins. In many cases, treatment can proceed at the same appointment.
The healing timeline
During treatment
The area turns white and freezes. A brief stinging sensation is normal — similar to a cold ice cube held against the skin.
0–5 minutes
Immediately after
As it thaws, the skin may flush red and a raised weal can form. A blister may develop over the next 2–4 hours.
0–4 hours
Days 3–7
Any blister settles and begins to dry. A scab forms naturally — do not pick it. Keep the area clean and uncovered where possible.
3–7 days
Weeks 1–2
The scab falls away naturally. The area may appear slightly lighter or pink — this is temporary as melanocytes recover.
1–2 weeks
Full recovery
Skin is fully healed. A follow-up session may be recommended for larger or deeper lesions.
Around 4 weeks

FAQs
Your questions answered.
CryoPen uses nitrous oxide (N₂O) at −89°C, delivered in a controlled burst to the lesion. This rapidly freezes the skin cells to −45°C, turning the liquid inside them into ice crystals that rupture the cell membrane — destroying the lesion. The process is quick and precise, affecting only the targeted area.
Most clients experience minimal discomfort — typically described as a brief cold or stinging sensation, similar to holding an ice cube against the skin for a few seconds. The treatment itself is very quick, which keeps any discomfort to a minimum.
Many lesions are fully resolved in a single session. Some larger or deeper lesions may require two or three sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Your therapist will advise you on the expected number of treatments during your initial consultation.
Side effects are minimal and are a normal part of the healing process. You may experience redness, a raised weal, a blister forming within a few hours, and a scab that falls away over 1–2 weeks. The area may appear slightly lighter temporarily as melanocytes recover. Do not pick the scab as this can increase the risk of scarring.
Map My Mole is a comprehensive mole screening service we use to ensure any mole being considered for CryoPen treatment is benign and safe to treat. High-quality images are captured at Hilltop and reviewed by a qualified consultant dermatologist, with results returned within 2–3 days. It is required for all mole removal clients and is also available as a standalone health check.
